Jan Amos Komensky 1592 – 1670 on the banknote of 200 Czech Crown/koruna

Czech Crown

The researchers regard Jan Amos Komensky as a founder of contemporary pedagogy. He graduated in the University of Heidelberg. He has lived and worked in the Czech Republic, Poland and United Kingdome where he becomes the first president of Harvard University. Throughout his life he has written more than 40 pedagogical works and has created the world’s first illustrated textbook. His ideas are too innovative for that time so they were all realized three centuries later: the democratization of education, professional orientation of the 14-year-olds, material assistance for the poor students and education of the retarded. Nowadays, UNESCO awards with a medal the name of Komensky. This award is one of the most prestigious international honors in the field of educational technologies. Also The School Education program of the European Union for collaboration among schools is named after Comenius (the Latinized name of Komensky).
