Kazimierz Wielki/ King Casimir the Great 1310 – 1370 on the banknote of 50 Polish zloty One of the features of the Polish zloty is that the portraits on them are most often portraits of monarchs who have ruled the country between X and XVI century. On the banknote of 50 zloty is the portrait of King Casimir the Great who has made reforms and united the Polish state. Throughout his governance, the territory of Poland has doubled with the assistance of a number of annexations and accessions. Casimir has strengthened the state apparatus and has introduced a unitary monetary system by coining the so called Krakow groshes. With a Royal Decree in 1364 the Krakow University was established. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities up to this day. |
