King Rama IX on the banknote of 100 Thai Baht

Thai Baht

Bhumibol Adulyadej, crowned as King Rama IX in 1946, is not only one of the longest-reigning monarchs but he is also one of the richest ones. Despite the fact that the Thailand monarch is a constitutional monarch with limited authority, he uses his position of authority in order to resolve the conflicts among opposing parties, to convince these parties to make compromises in the interest of the peace and stability of the country. His portrait with a uniform of a General-in-chief is situated on all Thai banknotes in currency. The Thailand people regard him as a demigod and still harsh punishments are in force for insulting the monarch. In 2006, the Thailand court convicted for 10 years of jail a Swedish citizen who has sprayed a poster with the image of King Rama IX.
